Posture analysis
Assessment of postural problems
Posture analysis is an assessment of how a person uses their body when standing, sitting and moving. Shoulder and pelvic levels, the appearance of the spine, how the feet meet the ground and, when needed, changes that occur during movement can be examined through observation and measurement.
It can be part of a more comprehensive assessment for people with neck, upper back or lower back complaints; for complaints linked to repetitive movements; for people who struggle in certain positions at work or during sport; and for growing children.
The aim is not to find a “perfect posture”. Everyone's body structure and comfortable positions are different; moreover, a single static posture finding does not on its own explain the cause of pain. What matters in the assessment is identifying movement, loading and positioning habits that may be linked to the person's complaint.
After the analysis, if needed, exercises to increase movement variety and physical capacity, adjustments to the work environment, or practical changes to apply during activity may be recommended. Supports such as insoles are considered only for people for whom they are judged suitable in the clinical assessment.
Coming to the assessment in clothes you can move comfortably in makes it easier to examine your posture and movement properly.
