Paediatric rehabilitation
Movement and development support for children
Paediatric rehabilitation is a physiotherapy programme aimed at supporting children's movement skills, physical capacity and independence in daily life. The programme is planned according to the child's age, developmental stage, diagnosis and individual needs; most of the work is carried out through play and everyday activities.
Developmental motor delays, changes in muscle tone, walking and balance problems, some orthopaedic or neurological conditions and physical problems that affect the child's everyday movement can be assessed within this scope.
The child's participation is an important part of treatment. For this reason, exercises can be combined with games, tasks and movement activities suited to their age and interests. Balance equipment, wall bars and various play equipment can be used for this purpose.
The family is also part of the programme. Exercises that can be done safely at home are shown to the parent, and suggestions are given to increase the child's active participation in daily life.
Progress is not assessed only by comparison with other children. Change from the child's own starting level is the main reference, while age-appropriate developmental milestones and standardised assessment tools are also used when needed. Goals are kept concrete: for example sitting more independently, standing up, using stairs, walking or carrying out an everyday skill appropriate for their age.
